What Is Phone Phishing?

Phone phishing is a type of fraud that involves using phone calls, text messages, or other forms of communication to deceive people into providing personal information such as credit card numbers and bank account details. It typically begins with an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from a legitimate company or organization. The caller will then ask for sensitive information such as passwords, Social Security numbers, or banking details in order to gain access to the victim’s accounts. In some cases, they may even try to get victims to transfer money directly into their own accounts.

Phone phishing can also involve sending malicious links via SMS messages which direct users towards fake websites designed to steal their data when they enter it on the page. These sites often look very similar to legitimate ones but are actually created by criminals who use them for identity theft and financial fraud purposes. Phone phishers may also send out automated voice recordings asking recipients for confidential information over the phone; this is known as “vishing” (voice-phishing). To protect yourself against these scams it is important not give out any personal information unless you have verified that the person calling you is indeed from a trusted source.
