What Is Lovelace?
Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer who is widely considered to be the first computer programmer. She wrote a program for Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, which was one of the earliest mechanical computers. Her work on this machine helped lay the foundations for modern computing.
Lovelace’s contributions to computing were not fully recognized until much later in history, but she has since become an icon of women in STEM fields. In 2009, her name was given to a programming language called “Ada Lovelace” that is used by many software developers today. Additionally, there are several awards and scholarships named after her that recognize outstanding achievements in technology and mathematics by female students around the world.
