What Is the Internet of Things?

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects, such as vehicles, buildings and home appliances that are embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable them to collect and exchange data. This technology allows these devices to be connected in real-time over the internet so they can interact with each other without any human intervention. The IoT has enabled us to create smarter cities by connecting everyday items like traffic lights or streetlights which can then communicate with one another for better efficiency. It also enables us to monitor our homes remotely through smart thermostats or security systems that alert us when something unusual happens.

The potential applications of the Internet of Things are vast; from healthcare monitoring systems that allow doctors to track patient health remotely, to energy management solutions that help reduce electricity consumption in households and businesses alike. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for companies across industries such as retail or manufacturing to gain valuable insights into customer behaviour patterns or production processes respectively. As more devices become interconnected via the IoT platform, we will continue seeing new opportunities arise where this technology can be used effectively for greater convenience and efficiency in our lives.
