What Is a Custodian?
A custodian is a person who is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of a building or property. They are typically employed by schools, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations to ensure that their facilities remain clean and safe. Custodians may be responsible for cleaning floors, windows, bathrooms, kitchens, hallways; emptying trash cans; dusting furniture; vacuuming carpets; mopping floors; waxing surfaces; polishing fixtures and equipment; replacing light bulbs and filters in air conditioning units; performing minor repairs on plumbing systems or electrical wiring systems as needed. In addition to these duties they may also provide security services such as locking doors at night or monitoring surveillance cameras.
Custodians must have excellent organizational skills in order to keep track of all tasks that need to be completed each day. They should also possess good communication skills so they can effectively communicate with supervisors about any issues that arise during their shift. Additionally it’s important for them to have knowledge of safety protocols so they can properly handle hazardous materials like chemicals used for cleaning purposes without putting themselves or others at risk. Finally having physical strength is essential since custodial work often involves lifting heavy objects such as furniture or supplies from one area of the facility to another.
